WOODLAND RACE

Report from Rod Scanlan
A massive thanks & well done to everyone involved in the 5k adventure race in Oldcourt woods in Rochestown in aid of Scoil Nioclais this morning. It was one of the best organised races I've ran in. Cork Woodland Race
My first ever trail race and I have to say the toughest race I have ever done. Could bearly manage to walk up one of the hills which is a first for me in a race. At least so did the leaders. Finishing in 5th place was a bonus. 3.5k of the 5k was uphill with a climb of 258ft in race profile below. 24:40 for 5K says it all. (7mins slower than my PB on the road)
On completing the race we were handed a banana, oaty flapjack, homemade cookie and bottle of water with tea/coffee and a large selection of homemade sandwiches and cakes in the Garryduff Sports Complex. All this for €10. I shall be signing up to this again next year. Well done to Barry Williams and all the other Mid AC runners Michael Hallahan finished 10th and Barry Williams 15th.

PS Rod was too modest to mention that he came 5th himself. Danny

Moby Dick

Well done to Sally Drennan who did the Triathlon in Youghal yesterday where she finished 4th Lady and 1st O/50. Any others who took part please let me know.

Women's Mini Marathon

A huge crowd as per usual turned out for the Evening Echo Mini Marathon in Cork today. There was a brilliant run by Eileen Leahy who finished 12th overall and just outside the prizewinners. This was a big move up of five or six places so hopefully next year she will be in there with the prizes. The whole organisation of the event seemed to be very good this year especially with the separation of walkers and runners.

Berlin Marathon
Congratulations Lizzie Lee

A huge congrats to Lizzie Lee (coached by our own Donie Walsh) on her success in Berlin Marathon on Sunday. She finished in 2.32.50 becoming the fifth fastest Irish woman ever in a marathon.

Tramore Valley parkrun # 1 - 26/09/2015

A fine run by John Dunphy in the Tramore Valley Park Run on Saturday where he finished in 5th place in a time of 18.30.A total of three hundred and forty five took part in what was the first event. This is definitely going to grow.

So...Tomorrow at 12, at Monaghan Road...See You There!

Killarney 10 Mile

Over a very tough route which was a mixture of sharp hills and very long drags .There were only three flat miles with the rest being very challenging and when Helen Gilroy describes a course as challenging you can be sure that in reality it was a very tough course.
The results as such were not as good as the lads wished but under the circumstances they did very well. Helen (69min) finished 4th Lady overall and 1st Lady in her category whilst Fergal O'Meara did 67min and Mick Murphy did 71min. All looking good for Dublin in October.

Lots of activity this weekend .So best of luck to Helen, Mick and Fergal who have an early start for the Killarney 10 Mile in the morning and also to any ladies doing the mini marathon on Sunday and remember its no quite four miles so don't leave it too late to kick for home. To Rod who is doing the 5Km in Rochestown Woods on Sunday.
