Lap Of The Lake

Once again there was a great crowd at the "Lap Of The Lake" in Ballintotis on the morning of the 27th and we had a fine crew attending this really great fun event which is always well worth supporting with all the monies raised going to Pieta House.

Report from Sally Drennan

Yesterday Barrie and I went out to Ballintotis to take part in the charity relay run around the lake.  I just wonder why I didn't run there before!  We got the usual friendly welcome and great organisation that we are all used to from the Ballintotis 4 mile race in the spring.  The community spirit in Ballintotis is second to none.

The way this race is organised is that you send in your four team members' names in advance, they help make up numbers if you don't have four.  On the day you give the overall team's predicted time to run four times around the 1.3 mile lap of the lake.  This makes it an ideal run for anyone to take part in.  I was talking to a couple of people who were running their first race that day.  How fast you run is really irrelevant, it is all just about having fun.  Each person carries a baton and hands it over to the next runner having run their lap.  In fact Barrie and I each did 2 laps, as our team fell apart a bit!  Still that made no difference.

By all accounts there is a great spread afterwards, although we were under time pressure so we didn't stay around.

As well as a really enjoyable morning, this is in aid of a deserving charity.  This year it was Pieta House.  At € 20 per team, it is great value and good to know that the funds are being so well spent.

I would highly recommend this race to more Midleton AC runners and hope that this will tempt more of us out next year.  I certainly plan to run it again!
