Midleton and District Sports Awards Given to Midleton AC's Daniel Colbert
The club is delighted to announce that our member Daniel Colbert has been given the Midleton and District Sports Award sponsored by Midleton Park Hotel for the Month of August. Daniel received it in recognition of his outstanding athletic achievements most notably his winning of the National U23 400mtr H Championships.
Daniel who has had an outstanding career as a juvenile winning both Munster and National medals in several disciplines including an All Ireland medal in the hammer before deciding to concentrate on both the 400 mtrs and the 400 H. He has gone from strength to strength since starting in UL where he is now coached by specialists Haley and Drew Harrison.
Daniel joined the club when he was around eight when the club was just about to rejuvenate itself with the juveniles under the guidance of Helen McSweeney, Maura Leahy, Edmund Colbert and of course Tom Houlihan. Coming from a stage where there was only a couple of families involved there is now almost two hundred juveniles registered. Daniel had been a shining example all through his career inspiring others to follow in his footsteps and hopefully he will now inspire some of our seniors as well.
