John Buckley 10Mile

Sunday morning saw the inaugural running of the John Buckley 10 Mile over a circuit based around the Marina and Blackrock it promised to be a course of very fast times. Unfortunately the wind got in the way and deprived many of the hoped for PBs. This did not apply all round as Vicky Cleary continued with her PB streak and came home in 77.41 and another PB. Almost everyone else had fine runs as well and it was great to see Sile Kearns back in form completing another 10.

Our first man home was “Birthday Boy” Eugene McCarthy having a fine run in 64.54 followed by Mongan O’Regan getting stronger by the race in 65.58.

In the Ladies our first home was Anna Doris coming fifth lady overall in a time of 67.36 she was followed by Margaret Jones who took 1st O/45 and between them took 2nd Team for Midleton AC ladies. More importantly both are just back from injury and had fine injury free runs. Looking good for Dublin. Esther Murphy had another great run with73.38 coming home as our third lady..

Many of our runners used this as a training run doing a few miles before and after including Don Ryan who had a super race despite doing five before and knowing he had the same to do after.

It was a superbly organised event well stewarded and t shirts for everyone and food after for one and all. With a total of five hundred runners taking part this is a race with a big future. It was won by Mark Hanrahan in 51.22 which goes to show how strong the wind was out there.
I didn’t manage to get everyone’s photo so if anyone wants to send in more the invitation is there as always to mdtacinfo@gmail.com
