Call for Volunteers - Cork City Marathon
Apart from all the fine details that go into organising any event, no race can go ahead without two essential elements: Runners and Stewards. Record numbers have entered for Monday's Marathon, Relay and Half-Marathon, however there is still a shortfall in volunteer stewards.Cork Athletics manages and stewards some 60% of the course, including relay changeover stations, water-stations and road junctions. There has, as always, been a tremendous response from Athletes and their Clubs, nevertheless there is still a shortfall in requirements. If you can spare a few hours on Monday, please contact Paddy Buckley, Vice-Chairman, Cork Athletics - contact details below. Paddy himself will, as always, be actively managing and stewarding the relaychangeover station at Kenley/Melbourne, on the Model Farm Road.
Paddy Buckley:
"We are very grateful to the very loyal stewards who have helped out at every one of the past eight marathons.
We need a few more volunteer stewards this Monday, June 1st, to get us over the line.
Please ring me, Paddy Buckley, at 085 1480725 , if you can help out."
If, you haven't yet volunteered, but find, on Monday, that you can spare time help, either go to the City Hall, early in the morning, or just go to one of the relay changeover stations and make yourself known to the stewards and officials there. Alternatively, make contact with any steward on the course.
Stewarding can be a very rewarding experience, and is a great way to see the event, while, at the same time, giving something back to the sport and the community.
