WEEKEND RUNAROUND Part 2

Meeting with Donie Walsh to plan races.

For anyone who is contemplating an Autumn marathon (Amsterdam or Dublin or other..), Donie has kindly offered to meet us to discuss a training plan.  He would like to know what races people wish to target so that he can tailor the plan to take some key races into consideration. This also applies to any races people may wish to target not just marathons.
We are meeting at 7pm on Wed next, June 3rd at the Community Centre.

Cork City Marathon +++ Wet Wet Wet

In what must have been the worst conditions possible the Cork City Marathon, Half Marathon and Relays too place today and I must say from having been on both sides of the fence it was easier running than watching. So a great well done to everyone who ran but also to those club members who stewarded and supported. I have been getting texts and e mails all afternoon praising the great support we had out there from our club today.

There was some great running there today from all our members and some brilliant results especially considering the conditions. Our two full marathon ladies Mary B Walsh and Amanda Stavrou did really well and came home in great style with still more in the tanks.
Our Half Marathon crew really excelled themselves with loads of PBs including Christophen McCarthy 1.39.07 , Maire Walsh (in the strange white costume above) and Margaret Jones (see below), Fionan O'hAodain  knocking 5mins off going to 1.38. Peter Gunning taking 3 mins off and going to 1.30.35 .Paul Fleming doing his first half marathon did a great 1.50.50 and Richard Power 2.05.00 all times in todays conditions were fantastic as were Paul Geary 1.36.30 and Derek Aherne 1.37.46 both PBs also.
Considering the conditions Andre Brodkorb says he had a great run finishing in 86.30 at 6.35 pace coming 7th. in his category. He found it hard to keep his pace though being surrounded by marathon runners doing 7.30.

Amongst The prize winners to hand were Anna Doris 1st O/45 and 6th overall, Margaret Jones 3rd O/45 and 8th overall lady. Whilst our men did fantastic also with Peter Gunning 2nd O/55 and 6th overall and Mark Walsh 3rd O/50. More details to follow later. Please keep sending in reports mdtacinfo@gmail.com

Thanks to Rayleen Dolphin, Eugene McCarthy, John Dunphy and others for the photos. It was very hard trying to get shots there today with the rain so apologies to those I missed so please keep sending them in. Danny

Bernie Did It and Did It In Style

A huge well done to Bernie Twomey who just completed her first Triathlon. She is delighted to report that the swim went well.. This is the event she feared the most so it was great to see the extra work she put into it paying off. The cycle was tough as she was in wet running gear and it was very cold and windy. Of course she loved the run and finally to quote herself " It was not very well organised we were delayed 1.5hrs but if you ever want to do something to challenge every fibre in your body, this is it." Well done Bernie you are an example to us all.

Best of luck to everyone running this weekend. On Saturday we have Bernie Twomey doing her first Tri. and we really do wish her well she has trained really hard for this especially in the water and has been well advised by our more experienced members.. So have a great one Bernie.

On Monday we have the marathon and if you are not running please come up and support. We have two I know of doing the full. Mary B Walsh and Amanda Stavrou so the very best ladies.
We have a very large crew doing the Half Marathon and the relays so the best to them also. Remember to please send in your times, PBs etc. also photo's to the blog mdtacinfo@gmail.com. We have around one thousand hits a week so someone is interested in how you are doing.

A few more super action shots from Rod Scanlan from Ballyandreen 5Mile on Thursday evening.
