WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Tour De Cure

Well done to all the crew that did the Tour De Cure today including Bernie Twomey, Camilla O'Connor, Noel O'Regan, Catherine Terry, Sinead Ivers , John Dunphy and many more. Glad most made it home before the rain but the wind on the Rathcormac road was not so nice.

There was a magnificent crowd at this event this morning in Market Green. A wonderful atmosphere of  people coming together for a very worthy cause prevailed. There was a great crowd from the club there ranging over all levels. The whole event was very well organised and was a credit to the organisation especially as it was the first time in Midleton.

Midleton 5 is Alive And Well with loads of PBs

In the Joe Hourigan Midleton 5 race Alan O'Shea a previous winner in 2012 won again tonight in a time of  24.47 and local man Sean McGrath got a PB and broke twenty five minutes for the first time ever in a time of 24.55 coming second.
We had a great crowd and in what was a perfect night for running  our own members had some fantastic runs and there was really so many PBs that I cannot remember them all ( please e mail details mdtacinfo@gmail.com )). Paul Spiteri our first man home got a PB as did Eugene McCarthy who broke the thirty minute barrier for the first time. Mark Walsh had a great run also getting a PB with 33.26.
Our ladies were fantastic also with Margaret Jones our first lady home also getting a PB after running into difficulties in the early stages she was encouraged to keep going by fellow club members and then got 1st O/45 and a PB to boot. Vicki Cleary had another great run and knocked almost two minutes off her PB. Amongst the others who got PBs were Louise Barry, Rayleen Dolphin, Svetlana Creedon and Gillian Bransfield so please let me know if you did also. Marie Gillman again took 1st O/50 with a fine run.
Eoin Murphy got a new PB and also came 3rd in his cat. whilst Brendan Cronin is getting well back on track and got a PB with a great run. Shirley O'Gorman new to the club was delighted with her run especially after a half marathon last weekend and clocked up a PB as did the ever solid Aoife Fouhy. Long time club member Anne Marie O'Donovan did it for the first time and really enjoyed it.

A special mention must go to Neilus Aherne(even though he doesn't want it) who delayed the start of his own race to help another athlete get ready for his. Neilus you are a true gentleman of that there is no doubt.

A huge thank you must go to all the members who helped out on the night working together to show what a great club we are.The new HQ worked out a treat and again  a massive THANK YOU to those members (many who gave up their own race ) who looked after the catering and the food which even surpassed previous years. It was also wonderful to see Angela Hourigan present to present the trophy that is in honour of her husband Joe a former much loved member of the club.

Aside Note
The race has been started from time immemorial as have most races in the East Cork area by Dan McCarthy (former Chairman of the East Cork Board) but unfortunately due to a recent accident Dan was unavailable this year but in order to keep with the tradition we arranged for his grandson Eoin Corcoran to take over the starters duty. Thanks Eoin and we wish Dan a speedy recovery.

FEEDBACK PLEASE

We have been getting some extremely positive feedback about the race and we welcome all feedback good or bad. If any member has any ideas of how we could improve the race it would be most welcome. This applies to all aspects of the race including signage, advertising, food etc. One particular area that is difficult is covering the cattle grids if anyone (there are lots of engineers both male and female in the club) could come up with a solution that is safe and easy to transport it would be great. The race just doesn't end with the results it was eleven o'clock when we left the hall after tidying up etc. and then yesterday morning all the signs and advertising had to be removed and stored (Thanks Noel,Alan ,Vince and co.). So all advice would be most appreciated. e mail mdtacinfo@gmail.com or talk to any of the organisers at training.
Always remember its YOUR race too.Danny

Just hours before dawn breaks over the banks of the beautiful Owenacurra River on May 9th the people of east Cork will paint the town yellow.
