NEW TRAINING ARRANGEMENTS 6.30pm
From Monday evening next 26th we will be moving the speedwork training to Midleton College Cricket Field. This is situated at the back of Midleton Hospital and has a very good surface . There is also loads of space there to run around if you want an easy session.
This is open to all our members at whatever level. If you want to improve you need to do speed work and it is always better not to do it on the road all the time as this can lead to injury.
There will be new special sessions for 8-9 min ( or slightly above or below) milers which will be taken by John Dunphy so if you really want to improve here is your chance. There is no better pacer around than John as can be seen from the demand on his services by race organisers.
If you have any problem finding the place give me a call 0872403940 or park in Supervalue and turn left and follow the diversion signs its only a 2 min jog from the car park.
ARDMORE 5
Emmet Ronan had a fantastic run on Friday evening in Ardmore coming home in a time of 29.15 which was 45 sec faster than his time there last year. Just goes to show all the hard Winter work pays off. Not only that but he took 1st Taurus as well. For those not familiar with this race it is run under male and female star signs with prizes for the first under each sign.
Ballyandreen 5
LADIES GO ALL THE WAY AND MAKE HISTORY
Last night in Ballyandreen saw some amazing running by many of our members especially our ladies. Karen Grant won the ladies race in a time of 31.13 This is the first ladies winner we had since the first race when Mary Dunne (O'Keeffe ) won it in 1981. Our ladies Karen Grant, Anna Doris and Helen Gilroy took 1St Team with 15 pts from St Finbarrs 2nd 18pts and EagleAC 3rd 30pts. Whilst many feared the Beast Of Ballyandreen there were lots of complaints afterwards about the Bitch Of Ballyandreen (the hill before the beast).
We had way too many there to go into all the individual successes but some people had brilliant runs. Our first man home in a great time was Paul Spiteri followed by John Dunphy then Karen Grant followed by Eugene McCarthy. Mike Dolphin out for a tempo run with Helen Gilroy had great runs.
Many others had fantastic runs including the ever improving Louise Barry and an absolutely brilliant run was had by Rayleen Dolphin who got a new PB and knocked seven minutes off last year’s time. Fionan O’hAodain also had a great run knocking almost two mins off his PB Christopher McCarthy also had a super run. Don Ryan constantly improving got another PB. and Fergal O'Meara showed his unused marathon training is paying off the dividends with a great run. Great also to see Martha McNamara back amongst the prize winners.
A big well done must go to the ladies from last Sept. Beginners Group who took on the Beast for the first time. Paula O’Sullivan. Emer O’Doherty, Helen Kenny and Sarah Bermingham.
UPDATE
Vickie Cleary had a fantastic run in Ballyandreen running a great time of 37.43 which was a new PB and is especially amazing considering the work she put in to the Emer Casey Race last weekend.
Individual Prize Winners
Karen Grant 1st Lady
Anna Doris 2nd O/40
Helen Gilroy 1st O/45
Margaret Jones 2nd O/45
Martha McNamara 3rd O/50
Neilus Aherne 1st O/55
Request
If you got a PB or had a great or bad run or if your friend or training partner got PBs etc please let the blog. know.
I cannot possibly know everyone's PBs etc. and rather than moaning about it on Facebook or at training that achievements are not being mentioned or honoured all you have to do is send it in.
Email mdtacinfo@gmail.com
The blog is and has always been delighted to receive submissions but is dependent on the information it receives.
also if you are NOT a member of Midleton AC (you are always welcome to join) Please do not enter the race as Midleton AC as this messes up the results especially when there are teams etc involved. State clearly who you are with or unattached etc.Thanks.

There were 83 finishers in the
Midleton AC team.
Roger Bannister and the 60th anniversary of his first sub-four-minute mile were widely covered in the media a few weeks ago. Did you ever wonder how fast you could cover one mile? Well, I am keen to know! Therefore, I intend to organise an informal 1 mile road race in Midleton.
Date: Thursday 5th June
Course: Start at the 2 mile mark, finish at the 1 mile mark of the Midleton 5 mile course
Time: 8pm, traffic should be calmer around that time
We can meet at 7.30pm at the 1 mile mark, plenty of space to leave your car, bike, water bottles etc. do a good warm-up run to the 2 mile mark and some stretching. We will need two cars (or bikes), one in front and one at the back – volunteers needed! I created a doodle counter to get an indication of how many will turn up on the night, just follow the instructions here http://doodle.com/n5aq94y5yufa bbt5
This will be an unofficial race, we can call it a training event for Midleton AC members to keep numbers under control.
Informal, self-timing, no bells and whistles – just running.
See you then
André
