International News
The brilliant news just in is that Midleton ACs Daniel Colbert has come 2nd in his race in Oordegem Belgium with a new PB of 54.14
This is absolutely incredible running he did 15 S to H8 and was really strong coming down the home straight. There is no doubt he will dip below the 54 before very long.
Well done DANIEL your club is so proud of you.
Watergrasshill 5 Mile
Saturday morning saw the Watergrasshill AC organise there first 5Mile Road Race and a fine job they did too. We had our own John Dunphy there and he again did us proud with a time of 29.56 and this is in Watergrasshill where the second half of the race goes uphill on the old Fermoy Cork Road so it really is a tough course. And when Dunphy says its tough its tough. He also came 3rd overall. Roy Fahy was the winner. Now John has a days rest and off he goes to be a 9Min pacer in the Half Marathon on Monday.
Update On Gerry Forde
As most of you know Gerry Forde Wheelchair Athlete suffered a stroke recently and the club made a small donation to purchase an I Pad for him. Here is an update on his progress.
Hi All,
Just to bring you up to date on Gerry's progress. He has astonished the doctors in the CUH with the recovery that he has made and he is hopeful of being let out of hospital over the weekend.
He will not be allowed (by his consultant) to drive for at least six weeks and with his computer on the 'blink' your kind offer of a donation towards the purchase of a laptop is a welcome and timely gesture.
You can see the specs and a photo of the laptop model that we purchased in PC World at the following website http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/
It is a 'touchscreen' HP laptop and will be very easy for Gerry to navigate his way around the available programmes. We put a year supply of Macafee anti-virus software on it and also a Microsoft office package. We intend to present Gerry with the laptop and a get well card from the six sponsors early next week.
Gerry is really thankful to you all for your generous donation and he can't wait to be back on the 'racing' circuit when he can thank you in person.
Just for your information the six donating clubs were (and these were the first six that we asked):
Ballycotton Running Promotions
Cork BHAA
Eagle AC
Midleton AC
St Finbarr's AC
100 Marathon Club Ireland
Thanks again for your prompt and kind offer and on behalf of Gerry please convey that thanks to the members of your respective clubs as well.
Best Wishes
Pat Twomey and Michael O'hAodain.
Kilcredan + Doneraile 5Kms
Victory For Helen
Helen Gilroy got her first overall WIN tonight in the Danny
Byrne 5Km in Doneraile Park and I know everyone in the club will join with me
in congratulating her on this very well deserved achievement .
This is not an
easy course and she did a great time of 19.40 and those North Cork girls are
not easy to beat but beat them she did in great style powering up the final
hill to victory. I have no photo to hand at present but am trying to get one.
Sheila Buckley was also in the prize winners coming home a super 5th
Lady and she will be a "running buddy" for Louise Barry in the Half Marathon on Monday.
Margaret Twohig and Co. Discussing the organisation of Cloyne 5Km no doubt.
Joy with our youngest supporter Ava (already signed up to Midleton AC)
Kilcredan 5Km
This was again a fantastic race tonight not as "fast
and flat" as advertised but a challenging and good course. It was superbly well
organised with loads of stewards and their prizes were an example to many other
races with three in every category up to O/65. All round from parking to food
the race was an example of how things should be done.
As a club we did fantastic with Karen Grant
continuing her great form and coming 2nd Lady home. Paul Spiteri
also had a great run coming 6th man home in 18 mins. and almost
everyone I spoke to had great times or PBs so rather than getting into
individual times ( they are available on precision timing page) I will list the
prize winners.
Karen Grant 2nd Lady
Margaret Jones 1st O/45 (and PB)
Joan Mc Carthy 2nd O/55
Kathleen O’Connell 1st O/60
Sean O’Sullivan 3rd O/40
John Cashman 1st O/45
Neilus Aherne 1st O/55
Donie O’Connell 2nd O/60
Danny McCarthy 3rd O/60
This was surely a great night for the club with great results in both the North and East of the county so lets hope it augers well for the rest of the weekend. Also a big "Thank You" to all those club members and friends who just came to support.
The Sexton Clan with Ava who will be the fastest of them all.
Louise and Margaret discussing Half Marathon tactics for Monday.
What a weekend of running that is ahead of us. Starting last night with Old Abbey 5km whilst tonight sees Kilcredane 5Km and the race in memory of my old friend the great Danny Byrne 5km in Doneraile Park. Tomorrow sees two Park Runs one in Macroom and one in Clonakilty whilst our friends Watergrasshill have a Fun Run. See previous listings for times Etc.Then the big one on Monday with the Cork Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay.
MARATHON
We wish everyone involved in the Marathon the very best hoping the weather cools down a bit. I know we have lots of members involved so here's hoping ye all get the times ye deserve. In the half marathon Louise Barry with running buddy Sheila Buckley will be out for a great one as will Fionan O'hAodain whist John Dunphy will be a 9 Min Pacer. Aoife Fouhy and Catherine Terry will be there too and glad of every cheer they get as they fly past.
We have several teams in the Relay including a team in the mix relay of Rod Scanlan, Paul Spiteri,Emmet Ronan,Karen Grant and Mike Cremin. All these have been running very well of late so we are hoping for great things from them. Peter Gunning has 5-6 teams doing the Marathon in aid of Saleen school.
In the full we have Mary B Walsh doing her umpteenth marathon and no doubt will have another good one whilst Margaret Jones who is running brilliantly at the moment will be going for another PB for the half.
Best of luck also to Derek Aherne who will be making his half marathon debut.
Hoping for a TOP 10
TEAM "Running out of time"
With three club members André Brodkorb, Barry O’Dwyer and Declan Dorgan and two others. They would have been four club runners but Chris has an injury.
Really looking forward to it as we are all about the same level and we aim for the top ten 2:45-2:47h – we’ll see.

Anyone not running or stewarding PLEASE come up and support the crew because every shout and cheer helps gain those vital few seconds also a big thanks to those club members and friends of the club who are stewarding because without your help the race could not go on.

OLD ABBEY 5Km
The weekend got off to a great start last night with a powerful run of 18.56 by John Dunphy. This is brilliant running especially considering the tough course. He also picked up 2nd O/40-50 for his trouble.
